Learn How a Foot Surgeon Can Help You
As a foot surgeon, we treat patients suffering from terrible foot pain or foot disorders. This is a common problem that impacts adults of all ages but most frequently those over the age of 50. As you age, you may find that the overuse of your feet, the forcefulness of cramming them into tight shoes, or the realities of aging all combine to create a variety of foot challenges that make it uncomfortable for you to walk or even pull on your shoes. In this situation, you need to visit our office so we can examine you and create a plan to treat these challenges.
PROBLEMS TREATED BY A FOOT SURGEON
- Heel spurs. When additional calcium forms around your heel, it can be sharp and create pain as it rubs on your other bones or even when you walk. These calcium deposits can be a half inch or more and need to be addressed to eliminate the discomfort caused by walking on it.
- In-grown toenails. If you or your child wears shoes that are too small or just too tight, it can lead to ingrown toenails. This happens most frequently in children as their feet are growing but also with adult patients more concerned with fashion than with comfort, only to find that their toes and feet have paid the price. Also, if you cut your toenails on the sides, there is a chance that they will start to cut into your skin and become ingrown. This can be terribly painful and made worse as you continue to wear the incorrect shoes.
- Diabetic foot problems. Since diabetes leads to circulation problems and increases the risk of developing an infection, people with diabetes frequently struggle with their feet. If you are diabetic and begin to notice that your feet are in pain or swelling, you should visit our office right away so we can diagnose and treat you. Diabetes is known for causing foot loss, so this is not something to ignore.
- Arthritic foot problems. Arthritis can cause the development of bone spurs and create a situation where it becomes difficult to walk without terrible foot pain. Most common in those over 60, arthritis is a leading cause of foot pain in the United States.
As a foot surgeon, we also treat infections, bunions, and corns. Regardless of what is bothering your feet, we encourage you to schedule a consultation.
NON-SURGICAL OPTIONS
When you visit our office, we will examine you and determine if you can benefit from trying non-surgical options first. You may be able to experience relief through wearing arch supports in your shoes, using an orthotic solution, buying better shoes, having regular foot massages, trying stretching exercises, etc. Many of our patients prefer to try these non-invasive options first, and we are happy to assist you with them. However, if they do not provide the relief you require, we are a foot surgeon and can complete a surgery so you can walk free from pain.
