We offer a foot injury treatment that can address a variety of problems that you may be experiencing with your feet. We customize our treatment plans by basing them on the patient’s needs. While a cut can seem small and harmless on a foot, if it is not treated properly it can become infected. Your feet are critical to your quality of life and this makes it necessary to address any problems right away.

Visiting our office for an examination is the best way to get started. In the meantime, we have compiled a list of some questions we hear on a regular basis about foot injury treatments.

HOW ARE FEET NORMALLY BROKEN?

There are a variety of ways for someone to break his or her foot in multiple places. It is most common for a foot to break due to something falling on the foot, stress or even overuse. The feet can also break in a variety of places to cause different forms of pain and take varying amounts of time to recover.

HOW CAN I TELL IF MY FOOT IS BROKEN?

Since the bones in one’s feet are relatively small, it is possible for the foot to be sore and the individual never realizes the foot is actually broken. There are signs to watch for which include:

If any of these symptoms linger for several days with no known causes, then it is best to visit us for an examination and treatment.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AT HOME?

If one believes that his or her foot is broken, then it is best to visit us for a foot injury treatment right away. Before one comes in, elevating and icing the foot can help. One may also want to take some ibuprofen since it will help to reduce any swelling.

HOW DO YOU TREAT A BROKEN FOOT?

Treatment greatly depends on the location of the injury and the size. In some cases, we will use a boot or compression dressings for treatment. In most cases, the treatment may not require surgery or intensive procedures. The sooner we treat the broken foot, the better chance for a smooth and easier recovery. This will be discussed in detail at the examination.

WILL I NEED SURGERY?

Surgery is sometimes necessary for part of a foot injury treatment, but this only happens on rare occasions. Typically, a foot injury can heal through non-invasive means. However, we can go over surgical treatment options with a patient if necessary.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE MY FEET TO HEAL?

The treatment time is highly subjective. Treatment is based on which bones are broken, how quickly the patient begins and if the patient stays off the foot as required by us. This is something we can better answer after an exam. If the patient does not treat his or her foot with proper rest, then the patient will only prolong the problem.

WHAT ARE THE LONG-TERM RISKS OF A BROKEN FOOT?

If one does not receive a proper foot injury treatment, then he or she can end up living with long-term complications. These complications can include arthritis or infection if the skin is punctured or also damaged. Long-term risks are entirely avoidable with proper treatment immediately after the injury.

HOW QUICKLY CAN YOU SEE ME?

When you call our office, let us know that you think your foot is broken or that you have a serious injury and we will try to see you that same day. We cannot guarantee our schedule but will work to treat you as quickly as possible.
